6 Tips to Keep Your Medical Cannabis Fresh

on January 24, 2022

Just like any medication or perishable item, medical marijuana must be stored properly. Not only would you like your cannabis to last longer than a couple of days; there are also major health concerns when medical marijuana is not stored properly.

With most perishable items, moisture is always your biggest foe. The same is true for medical cannabis.

If you store your flowers where moisture can get to them, you could have mold growth within just a couple of days. Since using moldy marijuana flowers can cause significant health issues, we highly stress to never use a flower that has or smells like it may have mold.

Conversely, if the plant becomes too dry, it will lose its potency. When you don’t get the effects you’d hoped for, that will make for an unpleasant experience.

With potential mold growth or over drying as big concerns, it’s essential to follow these very important tips when it comes to cannabis.

GENERAL CARE TIPS

1. Avoid temperature fluctuation.

Keep your medical marijuana out of areas with considerable fluctuations in temperature and excessive light exposure. For example, you don’t want to store cannabis in a refrigerator, with the door opening and closing throughout the day. This alters the temperature too much and gives unnecessary light to the buds. The ideal temperature for your medical marijuana is between 40°F and 80°F.

2. Handle with care.

The more your flowers are touched and handled roughly, the more likely they will reach their expiration. Always handle medical cannabis with great care.

3. Keep your cannabis separate.

Remember to never add other products to your storage containers. Adding other organic matter to your jar or container with cannabis could cause a potential breeding ground for mold and mildew.

STORAGE CONTAINER TIPS

4. Store in airtight containers.

Airtight containers are relatively inexpensive and easy to come by. Even a mason jar with a rubber seal is a great way to store your cannabis product. Remember to store it in a cool, dry place (like a cabinet), as well as keep it high and far away from children.

5. Medicine bottles work perfectly too.

Your old medicine bottles are another great way to store your cannabis buds; they are opaque and have a child-safe lid. Simply make sure it is cleaned out, labeled correctly, and completely dry.

6. Try the cannabis humidor.

Our absolute favorite way to store cannabis is in a cannabis humidor. If you’re willing to invest in a storage unit for your marijuana, then this is the way to go. Cannabis humidors are made specifically for storage purposes and can keep the humidity and RH levels between 59 and 63%.

We hope these tips will help you with your cannabis storage. Most importantly, always store your medical marijuana in a safe location away from children and pets.
